THE BIRTH OF LOTV FLOAT SPA

About the Owner

Shante Float Spa.jpeg

During the peak of my law enforcement career in 2005, I was
diagnosed with Discoid Lupus Erythematosus DLE which has
caused many disfiguring scars over 90% of my scalp causing
pain, scaling, keloids, and severe hair loss as it is a chronic
incurable skin condition. In recent years I began to experience
severe fatigue, painful swollen joints, muscle pain, and
headaches. In late 2018 I was introduced to, “Float Therapy” and floated
weightlessly and effortlessly for an hour in a quiet open bed
float spa filled with warm water and Epsom salt.
When I got out of the float spa I felt relaxed and rejuvenated like
I had been asleep on a bed of clouds for hours.
It was not until after my third floating session that my joint
and muscle pain began to subside and I knew that it was
because of the floating sessions that I began to feel more and
more like myself again.  Float Therapy is not
just for persons who have chronic pain or illnesses such as
Lupus, Cancer, or Fibromyalgia, but is beneficial to expectant
mothers, athletes, dancers, persons with high blood pressure,
headaches, asthma, allergies, and so much more. My
real-life testimony of its proven affects and how it has
changed my life for the better has compelled me to open
my own Float Spa.  Increasing, my quality of life and
positively impacting the lives of others living with Lupus, as well as
everyday people is something that I am passionate about.  My desire is to help others of all
ages, nationalities, professions, and walks of life to live
a more energetic and productive life through float therapy!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 WHAT IS FLOATATION THERAPY?

Floatation Therapy is based on a scientific approach to deep relaxation called Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique (R.E.S.T.). Floatation therapy uses massive amounts of Epsom salt (around 1,000 pounds per tub) to enable buoyancy in only 10 inches of water in a totally dark and soundless environment. The buoyancy provides a feeling of weightlessness in water warmed to skin temperature, helping to blur the boundary between the water and the body. Removing external stimuli allows the brain to easily enter theta state. Floating effortlessly in the water also takes pressure off the body producing a "zero-gravity-like environment".  Fully relaxing in this manner while soaking in Epsom salt can have a profound effect on aches and pains.

WHEN AND WHY WERE FLOATATION TANKS & PODS DEVELOPED?

The floatation devices in use today evolved from isolation tanks used in scientific studies in the 1950s. Floatation therapy developed from the research of John Lilly in 1954; although he was primarily interested in the effect of sensory deprivation on the human mind and brain. People using early float tanks discovered that they enjoyed the experience, and that the relaxed state was also a healing for many conditions including stress, anxiety, pain, swelling, insomnia and jet lag. As a result, float tanks were produced for commercial uses and commercial float centers offering floatation therapy from 1980 to the present where there are hundreds of floatation centers in dozens of countries.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FLOATING?

Promotes total calm, peaceful relaxation, eliminates fatigue and jet lag; improves sleep; alleviates stress- mental and physical; energizes, rejuvenates and revitalizes. •Stimulates left/right brain synchronization; shifts brain waves from Beta to lower frequency Alpha, Theta and even Delta. creates mental clarity, alertness; increases creativity, problem solving; heightens visualization; deepens meditation; expands awareness, intensifies acuteness of all the senses, accelerates learning. •Enhances hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis; increases motivation, diminishes depression, anxiety and fear; facilitates freedom from habits, phobias and addictions. •Improves athletic performance and helps prevent sports injuries and speeds the healing process. •Decreases the production of Cortisol, ACTH, Lactic Acid and Adrenaline; Increases production of endorphins; quickens rehabilitation and recovery; relieves pain- arthritis, migraines, injuries etc.; boosts immune function.

WHAT IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON REASONS FOR FLOATING?

Floatation is to experience pain relief; once again studies have shown that floatation alleviates pain (often totally) even in long- term chronic pain conditions. Karlstad University in Sweden showed that after 12 sessions subjects with diagnosed stress related pain (Fibromyalgia) reported considerable improvements in pain intensity and pain frequency. They also experienced decreases in stress, anxiety and depression while dispositional optimism and sleep improved.

CAN PREGNANT WOMEN FLOAT?

Yes, the float tank is a wonderful haven for pregnant women. We do, however, recommend that pregnant women avoid floating during the first trimester. If you have any concerns about the effects of floating on your pregnancy, we ask you to consult and get permission from your physician before you float.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO FLOAT?

On an average a 60 minutes single float therapy session can cost you approximately $65 and $80 for a 90 minutes float. Many float spa's and companies have single pod float tanks and couples pools that will allow 2 people to float in the pool together. Couples float session are approximately $95 for 60 minutes and $120 for 90 minutes. Discounts are offered to students, active military members, seniors, law enforcement officers, fire fighters, medical practitioners, and teachers.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU FLOAT?

Float Therapy is a practice. The more you float, the deeper your experience, and the easier it becomes. Like yoga or meditation, you can not do it once and achieve all of your goals or become Yoda.  Each time you float, your practice deepens, your mind and body become acclimated to the environment, and letting go becomes a lot easier.  For anyone curious about sensory deprivation also known as floating or float therapy, we recommend starting off with 2 floats in 30 days.

FAQ

The Answers You Need

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY FLOAT SESSION

Arrive 15-20 minutes before your scheduled float to ask questions about your session.  Avoid consumption of caffeine and alcohol. Do not shave or wax 48 hours prior to floating, as the salt may irritate the shaven or waxed area.  Shower before and after floating. Bring a swim cap (optional) to avoid getting your hair wet.  Shampooing your hair after floating is highly suggested. A bathing suit is optional. Do not eat a heavy meal before floating.  Empty your bladder before floating.  Avoid floating when you are menstruating.  Avoid floating if it has been less than two weeks since you have dyed or colored treated your hair. Secure your valuables and remove any jewelry that you don’t want to get wet or submerged into the salt water.  Use the provided earplugs to avoid salt getting into your ears. Use the provided vaseline to cover small scrapes or scratches.  Relax, Breathe & Float.

WHAT CAN YOU WEAR TO FLOAT?

Since it is a private experience, most people don't wear anything. Anything you wear will press against your body and could, become a distraction. In this regard imagine it as similar to getting into your bathtub.  Swimwear is optional.

WHO SHOULD FLOAT?

Anyone can float to include athletes, dancers, seniors, professionals, and students.  Women, men, and children can float.  Children must be accompanied by an adult if they are under the age of 13.  Everyone must sign a waiver prior utilizing any of our services and if you are under a physician’s care please consult them first before-hand.

HOW DOES THE WATER FILTRATION AND SANITATION WORK?

In the Float Spa Premium Floating Room System the water is stored separately from the pool in 2 different water reservoirs. The used water never stays in the pool, the filtered and cleaned floating liquid gets into the empty pool just when you’re floating session starts. The pool is emptied and cleaned totally after your floating session and the whole amount of salty body temperature water is pumped through the complex water cleaning system and filtered in 4+1 different ways (paper filter, sand filter, UV, chemical injection + periodical active carbon treatment) before - and after EVERY floating session.

The float room and shower are wiped with hot water and disinfectant between each float, and the floor is mopped. The chlorine level or disinfectant levels is checked at least daily (this is very easy and takes a few seconds with a disposable dip strip) and liquid chlorine is added (or other sterilizing agent).  See video https://youtu.be/8VRw5Oryw38
